Essay 3

Song Ju Na

Final Draft #3

The world has become as close as a village. If you fly, you can go to a country on the other side of the globe in less than a day, or you can get news straight from many countries around the world on the Internet. Globalization is a change that the world becomes closer and more affected than ever before. With the development of transportation and communication, the speed of globalization is getting faster as the Earth is getting closer like a village. With globalization, there are many things that people all over the world can share. First, the trade between countries was free to buy and sell goods, making it easier to buy and use goods made in other countries. Of course, you can easily meet things made in Korea in foreign countries. Not only things, but also trends and cultures have become easier to spread than before. It is also a form of globalization that people all over the world enjoy listening to the same music and watching the same movie. Of course, globalization doesn’t just have the good. As the economic sector becomes more globalized, competition intensifies, and poor countries become poorer and richer. Another problem is that the culture of the U.S. and Europe is being destroyed by the influx of cultures from each country and region.

What made globalization possible today? It wouldn’t have been easy for all these countries on the planet to be united. What does it mean to say that the world is getting closer? Getting close means that it’s easier to come and go, and it’s easier to tell the news. The reason why the world has become so easy to come and communicate with each other is because transportation and communication technologies have greatly improved. In other words, the development of transportation and communication has enabled globalization. Advances in transportation have made it easy to get around the world that was not easily accessible before, and even if you don’t go directly, you can get news from many countries in the world right there. The first step in globalization began with the exchange of resources and goods from each country. Each country has a lot of resources and goods that are produced according to its environment, and the remaining one is that it starts selling to other countries and buying what is lacking, and trade happens. As we went back and forth through trade, we naturally came to see each other’s cultures, and we had more influence over each other through exchange of cultures. The development of transportation and communication has made this exchange faster. Europe today, for example, is becoming one under the name of the European Union. The 28 countries in the European Union use one money, the Euro. In addition, the people of the European Union are free to travel between these 28 countries to find jobs or do business.

As the era of globalization has come, more Koreans are working against the backdrop of the world. Jeong Trio, Jo Su-mi, Jang Young-joo, and Kang Soo-jin shine their names in various art fields. Athletes like Park Chan-ho and Kim Yu-na are promoting the Korean people’s tenacity and determination in the field. In addition, some have become heads of international organizations like UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and have achieved academic achievements through research in science. As well as individuals, there are organizations that promote Korean culture widely, such as the Seattle-based classical dance troupe and the Nanta performance group that performed on Broadway. They are invited from abroad, or they are making their way into the world through national or individual efforts. As Koreans become more famous, the nation’s status is gradually increasing.

You and your neighbors can live happier lives if they help each other. Likewise, global citizen can live better lives if they share good things with each other. What are some good things about Global Citizen?

For example, South Korea does not have much land for its population. However, as the era of the global village has come, we can expand our activities beyond the scope of Korea’s territory. It’s been able to play around the world, not only in close China and Japan, but also in remote Latin America and Africa. In some cases, globalization can bring more economic benefits. For example, if you build factories in China or Southeast Asia where labor costs are low, you can make more profit by making goods at a lower cost? This is possible because of globalization. If we become globalized and encounter various and good cultures from all over the world, we can develop our society even If you insist on your own, your society becomes closed and you continue to observe bad customs. It is a good example of this that sexism and identity discrimination are disappearing in our society. Many countries can work together to solve global problems. Environmental problems such as ozone depletion and global warming do not occur in one country alone, but they cannot be solved by one country’s efforts alone. Also, we cannot stop wars in different countries and maintain world peace by ourselves. Globalization makes it easier for many countries to cooperate to solve these problems.

There are also bad things about the changes that occur as globalization progresses. The good things need to be developed further, but the bad things need to be corrected. If we don’t solve the problems caused by globalization, it can bring misfortune to many people. Globalization can be a conduit for many cultures, but it can also be a means of unilaterally conveying the culture of developed countries. If you go to the theater, there are only American, Chinese, and European movies. There are very few movies from the Third World like Southeast Asia or Africa. I think we should be able to watch movies from various countries in the era of globalization. The culture of a poor country is overshadowed by the culture of developed countries. Economic benefits can grow through globalization. But what if the benefits don’t work out fairly? For example, suppose only a few companies share the money they earn from exports. Companies made money, but people would still be poor. And there are differences between countries. It is also a matter of solving the problem that small and medium-sized countries are slowly developing while big powers are becoming stronger. If the benefits of globalization do not go evenly to the people, or if it is good for only a few countries, there will be conflict. Countries should be able to interact on an equal footing. It is also important to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefits of globalization. Furthermore, in order for globalization to become a conduit for developing diverse cultures, we need to introduce cultures of different countries without discrimination and recognize the characteristics of each culture with an open mind.
